Scholarship Spotlight: Aviance Dorsey, ARM®, Senior Property Manager, LUCHA

Property management, to me, provides a very rewarding career opportunity. At one point, I always thought that it was a hidden profession. Often times, when boasting on the fact that I work in the real estate profession, I get the response: “Sell me a house.” This just goes to show that there are so many different career paths one can follow within the field of real estate.
I have worked in property management for over 15 years, dedicating myself to providing excellent customer service and professionalism to communities that I service. In doing so, I want to make sure that I am equipped with the best training to boost my personal brand, while gaining industry respect, which combined will lead to increased salary. That path brought me to the scholarship opportunity and education provided by the Institute of Real Estate Management.
I started out seeking to obtain my ARM® credential in order to gain a better understanding of my role on site; the program also helped me learn leading-edge skills to advance my career. The knowledge gained will add value to the properties in my management portfolio. Having a solid foundation is crucial to managing with confidence and competence. Mastering the essentials is a must while preparing for your next promotion, which brought me back to IREM to pursue studies toward earning the Certified Property Manager designation.
The CPM® designation will enhance my knowledge of the four major areas of responsibility in real estate property management.
- Marketing and Financial
- Tenant and Occupancy
- Facility
- Administration and Risk Management
Many real estate professionals have looked at pursuing property management and changed their minds when presented with the scope of management tasks; however, once equipped with the necessary tools received from IREM, you can definitely achieve your learning goals while gaining the needed knowledge in a way that is easy to comprehend. Plus, the program offers a fun environment, making the journey all the better.
As a real estate manager your world changes daily.
