Scholarship Spotlight: Jeanine Harden

A hallmark of the IREM Education program is to provide assistance in the form of scholarships to help offset tuition for coursework toward earning professional designations. Today we begin a series highlighting IREM Chicago members who were awarded scholarships and recently earned the Accredited Residential Manager® (ARM) designation following the “Managing Residential Properties – RES 201” course held in October.
Today we present a Q&A perspective from Jeanine Harden, Assistant Property Manager at Draper and Kramer in Chicago. Jeanine was awarded a scholarship through the Shari Vass Educational Fund, named for the 2006 IREM Chicago Chapter President and property management leader.
Why did you want to pursue the ARM designation?
The designation provided career elevation. And, I’m interested in getting more involved with other Chicago real estate and property management organizations for networking opportunities.
What did you enjoy most about the class?
The instructors, Bill Levy, CPM® and Tim Kramer, CPM® , ARM® were awesome. The curriculum was informative and interesting, and not at all boring, as some classes can be.
How will having the ARM impact your future?
It will prepare me for future endeavors, such as earning the Certified Property Manager® (CPM) designation.
How did you see your job responsibilities differently when you returned to work on the Monday following the RES 201 course?
I am now prioritizing more efficiently, practicing better conflict resolution techniques, and being more conscious of ethics.
What was that “ah ha” moment you had to share with your co-workers as soon as you got back to the office?
My knowledge on how to create a budget.
What would you say to encourage someone to take RES201 and pursue their ARM?
Earning the ARM certainly increases your knowledge of the multifamily property industry and can bolster your earning potential. Plus, the program is great for networking and meeting other professionals in your industry.
Please share thoughts on your family, hobbies, likes, anything you want to share.
I’m very family oriented, enjoy travel and love to binge watch TV programs and take in new movies. Plus I enjoy shopping and just hanging with friends
What's next?
Two future goals are to become a senior property manager and earn the CPM designation.
